The SSC CHT (Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Translator) exam is conducted on a regular basis to recruit candidates for translator positions in various government departments.   1. Pay Scale

JTO (Junior Translation Officer)/JHT (Junior Hindi Translator) falls under Pay Scale Level - 6 (Rs. 35,400-1,12,400 - as per 2024 Notification)

SHT (Senior Hindi Translator)/ST (Senior Translator) falls under Pay Scale Level 7 (Rs. 44,900-1,42,400)

  1. Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the SSC CHT exam, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. Age Limit - 18 to 30 years.

However, 

  • SC/ST gets age relaxation of 5 years

  • OBC gets age relaxation of 3 years

  • PwD (Unreserved) gets age relaxation of 10 years

  • PwD (OBC) gets age relaxation of 13 years

  • PwD (SC/ST) gets age relaxation of 15 years.

  • Ex-Serviceman (ESM) gets age relaxation of 3 years

  • Defense Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities gets age relaxation of 3 years

  1. Educational Qualification for the JHT and SHT Posts

A Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level OR

A Master’s degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level OR

A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level OR

A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level OR

A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as a medium of examination nand the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level OR

AND

Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa or three years’ experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government Office, including Government of India Undertaking.
