Mahesh Dixit Named New Director of Intelligence Bureau
Mahesh Dixit, an IPS officer from the 1993 batch belonging to Telangana cadre, has been appointed as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). He succeeds Tapan Kumar Deka and his appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). Previously, Dixit served as Special Director at IB Headquarters and has also led the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Srinagar. He has extensive experience in intelligence gathering and counter-terror operations. The IB operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs and is India's oldest internal intelligence agency responsible for domestic security and intelligence.
Vision Document Aims for a Drug-Free India by 2029
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a Vision Document addressing Narcotics Control for the period 2026–2029 during the 10th Apex-Level meeting of NCORD in New Delhi. The initiative aims to establish a drug-free India by 2029, focusing on reducing demand, controlling supply, rehabilitation efforts, and raising awareness. It emphasizes enhanced inter-agency coordination and technology-driven enforcement, targeting synthetic drugs and darknet drug trafficking. Synthetic drug seizures have risen from 2.6 million kg to 11.8 million kg. Additionally, the Drug Disposal Fortnight was launched, planning to destroy over 209,000 kg of narcotics worth ₹6,000 crore.

Odisha Rolls Out GO-EAST Industrial Growth Plan
Odisha has introduced the GO-EAST initiative (Government of Odisha Eastern Investment Accelerator and Special Task Force) as part of its efforts to boost industrial development. The state also revised its Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022. Announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the program implements a Single-Window Clearance System featuring the GO-EAST Cell and the Go SWIFT digital monitoring platform. Industries located in 15 backward districts will receive extra incentives, fostering quicker approvals and balanced regional progress. Odisha has signed MoUs worth ₹24,823 crore with seven companies across various sectors.
Punjab Launches New Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme
Punjab has notified the VB-G RAM G Scheme, 2026, set to commence from July 1, 2026, in rural areas of the state. This scheme will replace the existing MGNREGA framework and guarantees 125 days of paid employment annually to rural families willing to undertake unskilled manual labor. The funding will follow a 60:40 ratio between the central and state governments. The program aims to enhance rural livelihoods and employment generation while promoting coordination with welfare schemes. The increase from 100 to 125 guaranteed days supports the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Prabhjeet Singh Resigns as Uber India President
Prabhjeet Singh has stepped down as President of Uber India and South Asia after completing a decade with the company. Joining Uber in 2015 and becoming president in 2020, Singh expanded Uber’s presence in Tier-II and Tier-III cities and launched services such as Uber Moto, Uber Auto, and Intercity Travel. He also initiated metro ticket booking via the Uber app and strengthened partnerships with fleet operators, including Everest Fleet. Uber credited him for laying a solid foundation for innovation and regional growth.

India Supports Global AI Opportunity Declaration
India joined 34 other countries endorsing the Joint Statement of AI Opportunity at the Second Pax Silica Summit held in Washington, D.C. This underscores India's commitment to global cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The declaration promotes trustworthy AI supply chains, a robust semiconductor ecosystem, innovation-friendly regulations, digital infrastructure, and entrepreneurship. It encourages responsible AI development and private sector investments. The Pax Silica Initiative was launched by the US in December 2025, and India officially joined during the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. The goal is to build a secure, resilient, and sustainable global AI technology ecosystem.
Operation Amistad: India Provides Aid to Earthquake-Hit Venezuela
Following the devastating earthquake on June 24, 2026, India launched Operation Amistad, a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission to Venezuela. The Indian Air Force deployed two C-17 Globemaster aircraft carrying around 30 tons of relief materials, including 6 tons of medical equipment and the BHISHM Cube hospital. A specialized rescue and medical team of 41-42 members was also dispatched to coordinate search, rescue, and medical support alongside local authorities. This mission highlights India's role as a dependable first responder during global emergencies.
India Promotes Mango Exports in Nordic Countries
India held its inaugural mango promotion event in the Nordic region, specifically in Reykjavik and Akureyri, Iceland. Organized jointly by the Indian Embassy and APEDA, the campaign aimed to boost Indian agricultural exports to Northern Europe. Four mango varieties—Dasheri, Chausa, Langda, and Kesar—were showcased, with Kesar highlighted as the “Queen of Mangoes.” Discussions on opportunities under the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) took place. Iceland imported mangoes worth approximately USD 3.3 million in 2025. This initiative opens new export avenues for Indian mango growers.
Japanese Prime Minister Sana Takachi Visits India in July
Japanese Prime Minister Sana Takachi is scheduled to visit India from July 1 to 3, 2026. This will be her first official visit to India after assuming office and is at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The leaders will participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, discussing defense, economic cooperation, technology, and infrastructure. Clean energy, renewable resources, and green hydrogen will also be key topics. The visit aims to strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and includes talks on collaboration through QUAD and G20 platforms. SCO Women’s Forum Advocates for Women-Led Development
The SCO Women’s Forum 2026 convened on June 26 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, promoting women’s leadership, gender equality, and inclusive development. India was represented virtually by Union Minister Annapurna Devi, showcasing initiatives like Mission Shakti and Mission Poshan 2.0. India achieved the highest representation at the World’s Best School Prizes 2026, organized by UK-based T4 Education. Seven Indian schools were among the top 10 finalists, evaluated on innovation, leadership, community impact, and resilience. IAF Integrates BrahMos Missile with Su-30MKI Jets
The Indian Air Force has equipped 40 Su-30MKI fighter jets with the air-launched BrahMos missile, significantly enhancing India’s long-range strike capabilities. The BrahMos missile can target enemies up to 450 kilometers away, traveling at speeds between Mach 2.8 and 3.0. This enables precise attacks beyond the reach of enemy air defenses, boosting strategic deterrence.
